The Graduate Jobs Application Guide

Give Yourself the Best Chance to Succeed with this Exclusive Guide

Graduate Jobs Guide How much is your career worth to you?

That's something I want you to keep in mind as you read this. My goal is to help you get into the Grad Program of your choice and give you every possible chance to succeed. I've been there before, on both sides of the fence, and I can tell you right now that not only is the process a long one but you ought to take every advantage you can get, especially if you're looking to get into the more competitive programs (banking, consulting, accounting, law). But let me tell you a bit about myself first before we get into how I'm going to help you get into the grad programs you want.

How I will Help You

The Graduate Jobs Guide will serve as your bible when you make your graduate application. It will guide you, step by step, through each step of the graduate applcation process. Quite frankly, this is the only place where you can get everything you'll need to help you succeed, all in the one place. Yes, there are hundreds of books about how to write effective job applications or how to interview well. As a matter of fact, I myself have spent hundreds of dollars on these career books, and then spent DAYS and DAYS wading through them in the hopes of improving my chances.

I can safely say that none of the books had quite captured my situation so there were a lot of gaps and some of the tips were a real hit and miss. But there were bits and pieces of information which I did later find useful during the recruitment process.

But you know, ultimately for me, if that made the difference between having a grad job and not having one, well I considered the time and money well spent in the end. Afterall, what's a couple of hundred dollars when it has helped me gain a job that pays that after one or two days alone? It was the countless hours spent that I really wish I could've shortened. That's what I will do for you.

Everything useful I have learned I will pass on to you. Having gone through the entire process myself, I can tell you what has worked for me and what hasn't. Whether you're applying to a grad progam for the first time or you haven't managed to get in previously but you're willing to try again, you are guaranteed to gain from the Graduate Jobs Guide. You can take advantage of the countless hours I've spent on those generic career books, on the 30+ interviews (more if you include interviews for the summer programs too!) I've had, all the online quizzing. It has been said many times before but I'll say it again: we live in an information economy. The extra knowledge you gain from this book will give you an edge over your peers. This will help you maximise your odds.

My Experience

I graduated at the height of the global financial crisis in 2009 from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. When I was applying in 2008 (you typically apply a year in advance), I was worried about my prospects for securing any graduate offers. My GPA was definitely mediocre, it didn't help that I had no "leadership" experience to brag about, and the global economy was starting to falter.

But I applied for several (almost 20 as a matter of fact!) graduate programs anyway and, to my surprise, I received 9 graduate offers from well-known firms with great graduate programs. Let me tell you something - it's a great feeling to get an offer! After weeks of anticipation, you finally get that damned phone call. "Congratulations, Richard. We have decided to extend you an offer for our graduate program. How do you feel?" Fucking great. That's how. I didn't put it in quite those words of course.

Every company that made an offer sent a bulky welcome pack. That was exciting. The better welcome packs were not only express posted but had all these cool company merchandise included too.

The Best Welcome Pack

Your Future

I want you to think a little bit about how much you want to secure an offer for 2012. You've spent 3+ years and paid at least $20,000 to obtain your university education. Is it not worth the extra $43.45 to ensure a good start for your career? From an investment perspective, all the skills, knowledge and theories you've learned will come to zilch if you don't secure something.

Investing in this book is a career investment that will keep on giving throughout the course of your life as you gain promotions and raises. Is that worth more than $43.45 to you?

I want to apply for a summer program. Will this guide still be able to help me?

Of course! The application process for both programs are very similar and the guide will help you get into summer programs as much as it would for getting into graduate programs. The best scenario would be having the guide as early as possible prior to the graduate application process. Some of the skills will take time to develop and being able to develop them well in advance of the graduate application would work very much in your favour.
